Is a community effort of churches from various denominations to reach out to the community for one day a year and assist those who need help. Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, "Truly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."
The 2010 Operation Inasmuch took place on October 23 with five churches participating and students from the University of Evansville. Along with St. John's East, the other Evansville churches were Aldersgate United Methodist, Alexander African Methodist Episcopal, Bethlehem United Church of Christ, and Eastminster Presbyterian.
Teams made up of members from each church went out to volunteer their time and energy at various charities, schools, and places where people live or congregate who need a helping hand.
Some of the activities that took place included sorting donated clothes at one charity, cleaning up yards and gardens at various schools and non-profits, sorting and shelving foods, passing out supplies and assisting at nursing homes, giving out bus tokens at bus stops, and passing out coins at laundromats.
It was a day of rejoicing seeing how the Lord worked in various ways to bring a smile to someone's face who thought there was nothing to smile about, to get a thank-you from someone who had what they thought was an insurmountable task but to find it completed within a couple of hours with many helping hands, and to have businesses donate supplies and services without asking for payment.
