Meet the Staff
John D. Herring, Jr.
John D. Herring, Jr., has been the Lay Minister at St. John’s East since August of 2020.
He was reared in Evansville, Ind. where he graduated from Reitz High School in 1973 and Lockyear Business College with an AA Degree in Accounting and Computer Science in 1975.
“Brother John” as he many times is affectionately referred to accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1967 at the historic New Hope Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. Dr. W.R. Brown, Sr.. He made a re-commitment and re-dedication of his life to the Lord in April of 1981 and was ordained as a deacon that same year. John served in a variety of capacities in the church including: Youth and Adult Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Instructor, Trustee, Bus Driver and as a member of the Outreach/Evangelism Team.
In September of 2001, Bro. Herring moved his membership to the Memorial Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Adrian M. Brooks, Sr. He continued to work in many of the same capacities that he served in at New Hope as well as Vice-President of the Deacon Board, Director of the Members Orientation Ministry and Wednesday Bible Study Instructor.
John’s passion lies in two primary areas as it relates to ministry: Evangelism and Outreach…getting unsaved and unchurched individuals in right relationship with Jesus Christ and Discipleship….implementing teaching and training programs to help new as well as existing believers grow, develop and mature in their relationship with the Lord. It is his belief that we, the body of Christ should praise, worship, and serve the true and living God that will take us from where we are and get us to where He would have us to be!
Brother John’s personal motto: “God does not bless us just for us to be blessed…..He blesses us so we in turn can be a blessing to those we come in contact with.”
John has been married to his beautiful wife Patricia for over 35 years and they have two children, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
